St Thomas is going to be home to Volkswagon’s new electric vehicle battery cell plant.   The plant is being built on a 140-hectare site within the City of St Thomas. Land clearing for the site was completed in the summer of 2024 and the plant is expected to be completed in 2027. It will create 3000 direct jobs and thousands of indirect jobs. The plant will have the capacity to produce batteries for up to 1 million electric vehicles per year.
